After years of Kratos carrying the franchise, Santa Monica Studio is giving us God of War: Laufey — Faye’s story. The new trailer looks emotional, brutal, and full of that raw Norse mythology energy I’ve been craving.
Faye (Laufey) is Finally Getting Her Moment – And It Looks Incredible
Yo, let me be honest…I’ve been a God of War stan since the PS2 days when Kratos was just a bald, rage-filled Spartan slaughtering Greek gods. The 2018 reboot and Ragnarök were both masterpieces, but I’ve always wanted to know more about Faye — the mysterious, powerful woman who tamed the Ghost of Sparta and gave birth to Atreus.
Now we’re getting God of War: Laufey, and from the new trailer, it looks like Santa Monica Studio is finally diving deep into her backstory.
The footage shows a younger Faye navigating the Nine Realms, dealing with gods, giants, and the heavy fate that comes with being Laufey the Just. It’s emotional, visually stunning, and has that signature God of War mix of brutal combat and heartfelt storytelling.
I plugged a few videos breaking down the trailer and early reactions — the consensus is loud: people are excited. It feels like a proper prequel that respects the lore while expanding the world in a meaningful way.
I really hope they don’t screw this up.
Faye is one of the most important characters in the entire reboot saga. She’s not just “Kratos’ wife” — she’s a giantess with immense power, wisdom, and a tragic destiny. Giving her a full game is a bold and beautiful move.
If they nail the tone — keeping it raw, emotional, and respectful to the mythology — this could easily become one of the best entries in the series.
Nostalgia + new story + Faye as the protagonist? Sign me the fuck up.
God of War: Laufey is shaping up to be something special.
